Description
Summary:This heartwarming film documents a friendship between two young women with Down syndrome. For nineteen years Ciara and Aileen have done everything together - pottery making, horseback riding, aerobics, disco dancing. They enjoy themselves immensely and because of their friendship each has been able to attain an impressive level of independence. Family support is the key ingredient in the success of this special friendship. Both mothers are strong, yet realistic, and brave enough to allow their daughters to take risks. Yet the mothers worry about the long-term problems that will face Ciara and Aileen when their mothers can no longer provide a home. This documentary shows that people with mental handicaps have the same needs as other adults: a job, a place to live, and relationships with their friends. It shows the emotional and social potential of people with Down syndrome.
