Pupils clearly understand the rewards and sanctions that will result from their behaviour, whether it be Smiley faces, which can lead to a certificate or Sad faces, which can lead to a visit to the headteacher. The emphasis is upon rewarding good behaviour and even the most challenging children are given every opportunity to receive them. Assertive discipline seems to work.
