Despite this legal requirement, a survey carried out by the children's charity Whizkidz found that a third of pupils with disabilities felt excluded from PE. But, as this programme demonstrates, there is no reason why any child should be left out. At Ipsley Middle School in Redditch, children in wheelchairs are even included in hurdling. The school's subject leader for PE explains that it means giving a little more time and thought to lesson preparations so that everyone can participate. The school has found that other children are just as keen to include and assist children with disabilities during games. There are four other programmes in this series that explain the responsibilities of schools towards children with special needs.
