| Summary: | Bellini's elegiac last opera with its aching beautiful vocal lines and dazzling coloratura fireworks has long been a special favorite of lovers of bel canto opera. Olga Peretyatko is Elvira, the Puritan girl who goes mad when she thinks she has been betrayed by her beloved Arturo (Lawrence Brownlee). In fact he is sympathetic to the Stuart cause and was helping the imprisoned Queen Enrichetta (Elizabeth Bishop) to escape. Mariusz Kwiecien is Riccardo, who has been promised Elvira's hand by her father, and Michele Pertusi is Elvira's Uncle Giorgio.
