Summary: | This recital by the distinguished German baritone Hermann Prey, who passed away in 1998, programs Schubert Lieder featuring poems by the great romantic writer Friedrich Schiller set to music. Hermann Prey was one of the greatest German baritones of the 20th century. A specialist of Mozart's operatic roles and of German Lieder, over the course of his career he gave numerous recitals around the globe. In 1962 he was award with the honorary title of Kammersänger ("Chamber Singer"), one of the highest distinctions to which Germand and Austrian singers can aspire. Schubert is uncontested master of Lieder, these sung German poems for a single accompanied voice. He composed more than 600 lieder over the course of his career, the greater part of which inspired by the works of Schiller, Goethe, and Mayrhofer.
