|a Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss created an enormous Rube Goldberg-like mechanism/art installation out of cast-off household objects, ramps, old tires and chemicals. The contraption's function was to destroy itself in a lengthy and spectacular chain reaction; the video itself is the visual record of the art/machine's half-hour performance. This German physics-fest is powered by natural forces - steam, gravity, friction, sublimation, fire and illustrates the kind of hijinks one suspects go on in the basement of the Physics Building when overworked graduate students have had a few too many Twinkies. There is no narration, no soundtrack, no living, breathing creature of any sort - just household items spinning, spilling, and spewing all over the place, accompanied by a very German aesthetic.
