He served in the trenches for several months, and in the spring of 1916 he returned to England where he received a commission as a second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. In 1917 Prendergast was a balloon observer attached to the Royal Flying Corps, 5th Kite Balloon Section. Later in the war, he commanded the 18th Balloon Company, sections no. 1 and 31. Fonds consists of correspondence, photographs, and military documents, trench and other maps, photographs, and military documents.
