Description
Summary:Description: Research bulletin for Interviews with Company Members from the 2002 Theatre Season: The Season of Cupid and Psyche. The bulletin contains interviews focusing on rehearsal period and the space, vocal work, the audience/actor relationship, directing, keeping focus, advice for new actors, and authority and status on stage. Useful points include the interview with Gary Lilburn, in which he explains the difference in performing at The Globe compared to other theatres which he claims is distinguished by the fact that 'in the Globe more than other theatres the audience really are a crucial part of the performance' and 'there is no pretence that they are not there'. The difficulties with audibility at The Globe are also mentioned in the interviews, which one actor mentioning the 'vocal work' and exercises required which allowed the cast to ensure that they were 'very well prepared with voice work and experimenting with the space'. Keith Dunphy also comments on the Globe as being a unique space for theatre: 'in different parts of the auditorium people get different views of the play, so they all experience slightly different stories, miniature plays in themselves'.
