520 |a Headquarters Battery; Lieberman was a Forward Observer for Headquarters Battery; 385th Field Artillery Battalion; his job was to move ahead of the main force with 5 other guys to scout the German and in some instances Italian positions and report back via telephone or radio; when necessary he would call 105mm or 155mm artillery in on the enemy positions; on one occasion one of his team mates and a close friend were killed by rifle fire while they were scouting out enemy positions; during the Battle of the Bulge his unit was located at the northern edge of the battle area and was ordered to prevent the Germans from continuing their advance; they were able to keep the Germans at bay by using artillery fire.
