520 |a Stimson was originally a rifleman with various companies, but soon after the war started he was transferred to HQ company of the 21st IR as Freddy Irvin's aide. He gives an interesting behind the scenes point of view that is not always told. He was involved in the New Guinea, and Leyte, and Luzon invasions. One of his most interesting stories was when Gen. MacArthur landed on Leyte. MacArthur shook Stimson's hand and inquired where his Division commander was. Stimson was then ordered to find and bring his commanding officer to MacArthur. While on Leyte, he recalled when Freddy Irvin was relieved after the battle of Breakneck Ridge. He next went to Mindoro to assist in re-building the Rgt. Stimson was credited with "liberating" the Philippine island of Boacc. He and a few soldiers surveyed the island looking for Japanese soldiers but did not find any. After the war, he was sent to Southern Honchu for occupation duty. He stayed there for a few months.
