Description
Summary:International soloist and virtuoso violinist Gil Shaham works with violinist alumni of the New World Symphony (NWS) in a series of four master classes. They feature young professional violinists performing Classical and Romantic masterpieces from the violin repertoire. In 1924, the virtuoso violinist Eugène Ysaÿe composed a set of 6 sonatas, each dedicated to living violinists and inspired by the musical style of its dedicatee. In the master class with Shaham, NWS alumnus Mircea Lazar performs the third sonata, called "Ballade", dedicated to George Enescu, who was a Romanian violinist, composer and later teacher of Yehudi Menuhin. Lazar and Shaham discuss musical meaning, pulse versus rubato and the work's harmonic structure.
