For more than 100 years it remains on stage; the music might be heard in concerts, radio and TV programs. It is undoubtedly one of the highest achievements of the Russian classical ballet, one of the symbols of Russian ballet art. The ballet was composed in 1875-76 by a commission of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater; the premiere took place in February 1877. But the real success came to it only in 1895 when it was staged in Mariinsky Theater in St.Petersburg. The choreographers were Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov (he made the "swan scenes"#x9D;). The ballet went through many changes before it became the popular "Swan Lake" that we know. In 1950, Mariinsky Theater made a version that became famous all over the world. Victor Fedotov presents the ballet in the original 1895 version (Petipa-Ivanov version). He conducted this ballet with all Mariinsky stars in the period of almost 40 years. He performed it in Zemper Opera in Dresden, in Covent Garden in London, in Royal Opera in Sweden, in Tokyo New Opera. He also took part in numerous TV recordings of "The Swan Lake" and a film.
