Description
Summary:A historic member of garage-punk band The Stooges, Ron Asheton left his mark on a handful of legendary albums, including the stunning Fun House. Entitled "Tribute To Ron Asheton", this live session recalls the essential place occupied by the late guitarist within the rock gang. Captured in April 2011 at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, the performance is naturally punctuated by interventions by Iggy Pop, the head of the Stooges, who forcefully revisits many classics such as "Raw Power," and "Search And Destroy." Supported by a string ensemble and a brass section, the Iguana confirms an innate talent for the stage as evoked by "TV Eye" and its riffs of liquid steel, or "No Fun," one of the many hymns extracted from the first opus of 1969. Alternately abrasive and peaceful (listen to the moving "Ron's Tune"), this set is lined with testimonials from early fans such as Henry "Black Flag" Rollins and filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. Director of "Gimme Danger," a remarkable documentary devoted to the Stooges, the latter returns to the personality of Ron Asheton and the emotional aura it generated. Vincent Caffiaux.
