|a The Supreme Court ruled that the master of the slaves was liable for allowing them to negligently set fire to certain log-heaps on his new land, close to a fence in allegedly very dry weather, whereby the fire escaped into the grounds of the plaintiff, causing damage to timber and to a house. Only one male slave and a slave girl had been left in charge of burning the log-heaps. Debate as to the wind and weather conditions. The Court below had found for the defendant, but Justice Pearson said that the defendant had not taken prudent care and attention.
