|a Warrant to search the premises of the plaintiff and arrest a runaway slave. The constable, Matthews, assisted by Hay, broke open a stable door on the premises of the plaintiff. Warrant had been issued by Rufus K Speed, justice of the peace, but he did not have the power under the law to do this. He was therefore responsible for the damage caused.
