|a A slave called Laughlin allegedly set fire to a barn containing corn. A crib nearby containing corn and peas was also partially destroyed. The lower court found the prisoner guilty of a capital felony because it decided that this had been a wilful and malicious act. judgment reversed because it was argued that a barn and a crib are houses of a different kind. The burning of a crib was not a felony. Order made for a new trial.
