|a Trover for a slave. Wright, the county sheriff, seized the slave in an execution against one Isham Choat. The slave had been the property of Sybert Choat, deceased, whose executrix, the plaintiff Mary Choat, had sold him at public auction to Isham Choat for [dollars] 600. The slave was delivered to Isham but no bill of sale had been conveyed by Mary. The judge ruled that the sale and delivery of a slave constituted transfer of title, and a verdict was returned for Wright. Choat appealed, and the Supreme Court upheld the ruling.
