Description
Summary:Will of Matthew Brickhouse. The plaintiff Samuel Rogers and the defendant James Brickhouse were appointed as executors. This bill was filed by Rogers and his wife against Brickhouse and several legatees. Dispute over the amount of the estate, legacies and other questions, particularly the bequest by the testator of a slave girl and her increase to his granddaughter, Ann Cohoon. At the time of the making of the will in 1852 the slave girl, Hasty, had a child, which was not named in the will. A ruling was given that the granddaughter did not get possession of this child as it was not part of the increase. It was also ruled that the Godwin tract of land which had been made up of two separate tracts should be treated as a whole. The Court's advice was also sought on other land matters and the allocation of proceeds from the various crops.
