Description
Summary:A slave called Anderson was by the sheriff, Joseph H Gooch, at a public auction to the defendant Landis to satisfy an execution made against D A Paschall. The intestate of the plaintiff had purchased the slave at a private sale for [dollars] 1,000 on 12 September 1857. The sheriff's sale took place after the date given on the bill of sale for this private sale, but the sheriff had a lien for a prior date. Morris filed this bill and it was pursued after his death by his executor. Plaintiff argued there were other slaves that could have been sold to satisfy the debt. Plaintiff's bill was dismissed.
