|a In her will, Lucy Haynes directed that her slaves Milly and James be hired out during the life of her grandson, William Noblin, and the profits of their hire paid to him, and that after his death that they pass to William's daughter, Lucy Noblin, together with any profits yet unassigned. The plaintiffs in the bill stated that they had been assigned the Noblins' interests in the slaves for a valuable consideration, and preyed that the defendants, Lucy Haynes's executors, be ordered to convey the slaves and an account of their hire. The defendants disputed the plaintiffs' title. The court determined that William Noblin and Lucy Noblin's husband, James Walker, had indeed sold their interests in the slaves to the plaintiffs, and that the plaintiffs should therefore be given the slaves and their profits.
