Summary:May 22, 1836, letter from Charles F. McCay in Athens, Ga., to his uncle, William McCay, in Northumberland, Pa., regarding the present Indian war in Florida and Georgia. McCay reviews and criticizes Gen. Winfield Scott s Florida campaign against the Seminoles, comments on the origin of that war, discusses the causes of the Creek disturbance in Georgia, and notes that the ratification of the Cherokee removal treaty may also spur that tribe to fight.
