The father of Jean-Paul Valley shows up dying on his doorstep, where he passes on the mantle of Azrael to his (very confused) son. Batman attempts to track down the arms dealer responsible for the senior Azrael's death, while Jean-Paul begins his training as an agent of the Order of St. Dumas.
