The desert fathers on monastic community / Graham Gould.

A study of the life and thought of the Christian monks of 4th- and 5th-century lower Egypt, whose views have been influential at many points in the subsequent history of Christianity. It suggests that they were able to combine their concern for solitude with a commitment to the value of community.
