North Carolina, Halifax County, State v Sam (a slave), March 1786.

Trial of Sam, a slave belonging to John Lindsey, who was charged with poisoning a negro woman named Sue. She died within five hours. Ordered that Sam be hanged by the neck until dead. Sam was valued at 100. Claim for compensation submitted to the Committee of Claims in the House of Commons in 1786.
