North Carolina, Supreme Court, Raleigh : State v Clemons, December 1832, 1.

Clemons was indicted for allowing his slave, March, to hire his own time. He was convicted under an act of 1794, and appealed. The Supreme Court found that that act was intended for use against the slaves in question and not their masters. Judgment reversed.
