North Carolina, Superior Court, Halifax : Knight and wife v Thomas, April 1796.

Thomas, the sheriff, sold the slaves as the property of Pass to satisfy one of Pass's creditors. Knight complained that Pass had already sold the slaves to his wife. The court decided that the parol conveyance was void with respect to creditors as per an act of 1784.
